Many people have written about Prolific in the last five years, and I am not one of them. Despite writing sci-fi just for fun, finishing a whole book felt less daunting than writing this essay. I’ve started and then stopped writing this too many times to count. I perpetually feel it’s premature. That there’s going to be some magical accomplishment that would finally make it appropriate. But as we raised ~$90M and achieved miracle after miracle in the lab, my insecurity around writing this essay has not gone away.

The Everything Machine is the first mainstream book about biomanufacturing — spanning every field it touches — food, medicine, everyday essentials, energy, construction, and our future on other worlds.
